“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God…” -Romans 1:1 ESV

The Apostle Paul was no stranger to the limelight with his qualifications exceeding most religious leaders. In Philippians 3:4-6 Paul gives the reader a glimpse of his education in the religious circle. Yet immediately following that section in verse 7 he says, ” I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” When I was pursuing my degree we had a professor in Systematic Theology whose work was to help us understand the Bible with greater knowledge so we could help others know Christ. However what you wouldn’t know about him, is earlier in life he was an Aerospace Engineer!

When he came to Christ and decided to teach others, he counted all his previous accomplishments as loss for the sake of Christ. Years of study and research would be given up for a pursuit with less pay and less worldly status, to essentially make himself a servant for us students to know Christ on a deeper level. That’s why Paul introduced himself to the church in Rome, not with his qualifications but as a “servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.” How do you introduce yourself?

Pray for God to give you a humble heart and to set you apart for His good news as you go into the world.
